Thought Leadership Series: Global Debt & Investment Climate with Dr. Viral V. Acharya, Former Deputy Governor, RBI

On January 30th, AMCHAM organized a virtual session in the Thought Leadership Series on ‘Global Debt & Investment Climate: What Businesses Must Know About Future Risks’ bringing together senior industry representatives to examine evolving global debt dynamics and their implications for investment and business strategy. The session featured Dr. Viral V. Acharya, C.V. Starr Professor of Economics at NYU Stern School of Business and former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, who delivered an in-depth keynote on monetary policy, financial stability, and emerging global macroeconomic risks. Dr. Acharya highlighted key vulnerabilities arising from elevated public and private debt, the changing global interest rate environment, and the potential transmission of financial stress across markets, offering valuable perspectives for businesses operating in an uncertain global landscape. The lecture was followed by an interactive Q&A session moderated by Ms. Deepa Kumar, Head of Asia-Pacific Country Risk, S&P Global Market Intelligence, which enabled participants to engage on issues such as capital flows, sovereign risk, financial sector resilience, and implications for emerging markets.
