The Future of U.S.-India Relations under the New Administration
On January 20th, inauguration day for the 47th U.S. President Donald Trump, AMCHAM organized a timely interaction on ‘The Future of U.S.-India Relations under the New Administration’ with Ambassador Kenneth Juster, former U.S. Ambassador to India and Distinguished Fellow, Council on Foreign Relations. Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM welcomed participants and introduced the Ambassador. Ambassador Juster shared about how U.S.-India relations were a bright spot in Trump’s first administration, unique challenges around the rise of China, QUAD and the overwhelming bipartisan nature of bilateral ties between both countries. He emphasized the India connections of some nominated officials in the Trump Administration and highlighted strides in defense, energy and healthcare. Trade challenges, reciprocal tariffs, immigration and visa concerns were mentioned. Mr. Salil Gupte, Chairman, AMCHAM and President, Boeing India & South Asia moderated the Q&A segment which touched on Indo-Pacific strategy, global capability centers, supply chains, semiconductors, AI, climate and education, among other topics.
