On 3rd November 2015, USTDA informed about their work and efforts for the chosen three smart city projects under the U.S.-India agreement. Companies are requested to keep in constant touch to benefit from emerging business opportunities. Members also mentioned the efforts made by AmCham in approaching other states and cities where smart city related business opportunities are coming up. Companies discussed some of the key challenges faced in terms of lack of transparency, market access and opaque bidding conditions for securing government business.
Major U.S. MNCs engaged in some of the smart city projects in India shared their positive and fruitful experiences. Valuable insights were shared by members in a closed door atmosphere and there was a consensus that some of the state governments are very supportive to bring technology solutions for infrastructure and keen to develop smart city projects across the country. It was decided to have regular conference calls to update members on smart city initiatives, to start an online discussion forum for members in this sector and organize at least two or three state level outreach programs for smart cities before end of the year.
