Session on the Digital Personal Data Protection Act

AMCHAM’s Hyderabad Chapter, in association with EY, organized a session on the Digital Personal Data Protection Act on April 25th. Around 50 participants joined the virtual session led by Mr. Rajiv Chugh, Partner Tax Advisory, EY. He shared case stories on data breach and the liability under data protection law. The importance of notice and consent, grievance redressal, rights of data principal, personal data breach and correction and erasure were discussed. Failure to take reasonable security safeguards to prevent personal data breach could cost up to INR 250 crores. He stressed on the importance of periodic assessment and management of personal data to maintain high-quality standards in order to achieve the objectives of the act. Mr. Chugh encouraged members to review/modify consent mechanisms and data handling procedures and to stay abreast on new compliances introduced by authorities. The session included an engaging Q&A segment.
