Roundtable Meeting with Ms. Fatema Sumar, Millennium Challenge Corporation: Opportunities to Partner in Development Projects & Economic Growth – 24th July 2017

AMCHAM India and the U.S. Consulate General Mumbai, met with Ms. Fatema Sumar, Regional Deputy Vice President, Europe, Asia, Pacific and Latin America, Millennium Challenge Corporation on Monday, 24th July 2017 in Mumbai, to discuss opportunities to partner in development projects and economic growth.

At the meeting, Ms. Surabhi Wahal, Regional Director- Western Region, AMCHAM India, spoke about the keen interest of AMCHAM India to find a synergy for partnership between its members and the Millennium Challenge Corporation in fostering growth and development. The interaction focussed on policies, funding mechanism, cross border projects, bidding opportunities in international projects for U.S. companies in India and other relevant aspects. AMCHAM’s strengths and initiatives across industry sectors brought much interest to the dialogue.

Ms. Fatema Sumar, in her address, highlighted the initiatives of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, an innovative and independent U.S. foreign aid agency that is helping lead the fight against global poverty with a special focus on ‘development.’ The corporation partners with poorer countries across the Latin America, Africa, Europe, Asia and the Pacific (such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Indonesia) that show they are committed to good governance, economic freedom, and investing in their citizens. Ms. Sumar spoke of the organization’s interest in partnering with AMCHAM and creating an outreach to member companies to collaborate on various projects with a special focus on infrastructure. The meeting concluded with a common vision to work on the developmental goals of the two countries.
