Mr. Amit Sharma, Chairman, AmCham ICT Committee and Executive Vice President, President Asia, ATC Tower Company of India Pvt. Ltd., accompanied by Co-Chairman, Mr. Naveen Tandon, Director – IEA, AT&T Communication Services India Private Limited, and Ms. Madhvi Kataria, Deputy Executive Director, AmCham, called on Mr. R.S. Sharma, Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), on 5th November 2015 in his office.
Mr. Amit Sharma discussed the need for cost based tariffs to service providers to offset high initial fixed costs when entering rural service areas. . Mr. R.S. Sharma agreed that the objective was to provide broadband at low cost. Mr. Amit Sharma also requested for consultation with private sector before any policy framework was finalized. Mr. Naveen Tandon raised the issue of high cost of international cable landing charges. He also called for TRAI to open up internet connections.
