India’s Energy Transition: The Way Forward
AMCHAM’s Energy Committee organized a roundtable on ‘India’s Energy Transition: The Way Forward’ on November 26th in New Delhi. Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM, welcomed participants and highlighted how India’s digital transformation is opening up new opportunities, significant energy challenges of data centers and the role of U.S. companies in India’s energy growth. In his opening remarks, Mr. Anil Bhatia, Chairman – Energy Committee, AMCHAM and Vice President & Managing Director – India, Emerson spoke about India’s phenomenal economic growth and how this would lead to a significant rise in energy demand over the coming decades. He highlighted the continuing presence of U.S. energy companies in India and their contribution to the sector through R&D and skilling. AMCHAM members, he said, have been actively partnering in India’s energy growth, bringing-in globally proven technological capabilities and have been contributing to India’s energy transformation. Setting the scene for the roundtable, Mr. Atanu Mukherjee, Chairman – Eastern Region, AMCHAM and CEO, Dastur Energy Inc. underlined the need for an integrated, pragmatic policy framework to align India’s energy, industrial, financial, innovation, and environmental objectives and strategies for securing energy abundance, affordability, reliability, and sustainability.
Delivering the special address, Dr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman & Managing Director, Oil India Ltd., appreciated the U.S.-India partnership in the energy sector and highlighted Oil India’s existing positive collaboration with U.S. companies for various ongoing projects. Dr. Rath spoke about upcoming opportunities in critical minerals, bioethanol, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), coal gasification and the digital drive 2.0 being undertaken by Oil India and invited U.S. companies for engaging in fruitful collaborations. On the occasion, Dr. Ranjit Rath, released AMCHAM’s vision paper on ‘India’s Energy Transition: The Way Forward’ which includes a capability deck capturing the contribution of AMCHAM members to India’s energy sector. Participants at the roundtable included representatives from 3M, APCO Worldwide, Baker Hughes, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Carrier, Copeland, Dastur Energy, Emerson, FTI Consulting, GE Vernova, Honeywell, Intel, John Crane, LanzaTech, Marsh and the U.S. Embassy. The roundtable was supported by the following partners – ExxonMobil, Emerson, John Crane, Rockwell Automation and knowledge partner Dastur Energy.
