Healthcare Committees Interaction with Mr. Jonathan Heimer, Honorary National Executive Board Member, AMCHAM and Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, U.S. Embassy
On April 24th, AMCHAM’s Healthcare Committees (Medical Devices Committee and Pharmaceuticals Committee) had an interaction with Mr. Jonathan Heimer, Honorary National Executive Board Member, AMCHAM and Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, U.S. Embassy along with his colleagues Mr.David Pasquini, Commercial Officer and Mr. Naveen Kumar Rai, Senior Policy Advisor. Mr. Chaitanya Sarawate, Vice Chairman, AMCHAM, Chairman – Medical Devices Committee, AMCHAM and President & CEO, GE Healthcare South Asia, Managing Director, Wipro GE Healthcare, moderated the session. Mr. Ajay Bagga, Managing Director India & Country Head – South Asia, Zimmer India, Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM and representatives from, BD, Boston Scientific, DuPont, Edwards Lifesciences India, GE Healthcare, J&J, MSD, Ortho Clinical Diagnostics Strkyer, Viatris, UPS, Zimmer Biomet, etc.
More than 35 members participated in this meeting and deliberated on the following: Marketing Code / UCPMP and preparing the FAQs, engagements with the Government of India, domestic training and overseas training – with prohibitions which prevent access to innovative technologies / therapeutics training, issues related to refurbished medical equipment, access related challenges – pricing / TMR issues, innovative devices stopped by the government in Tier 2 / Tier 3 cities which is not indigenously manufactured, non-scheduled knee implants process, the GTE exemption list, operational issues related to the application process, uncertainties at customs, re-classifications of risk based equipment without transition time, sales and efficacy of a products, etc. Mr. Heimer encouraged members to share brief bullet points on top priorities with the Embassy.
