Discussion on the Manufacturing Landscape in India for U.S. Industry with Mr. Nelson Cunningham, Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment, U.S. Department of State

On September 5th, AMCHAM organized a discussion on the manufacturing landscape in India for U.S. industry across various sectors with Mr. Nelson Cunningham, Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment, U.S. Department of State at the Boeing India office in New Delhi. Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM introduced Mr. Cunningham and welcomed participants. In his opening remarks, Mr. Salil Gupte, Chairman, AMCHAM and President, Boeing India & South Asia shared about India’s historical strengths and state-of-the-art next gen manufacturing, while highlighting the need for skilling to increase readiness for industrial capacity. Mr. Cunningham was keen to hear insights into how India could be a priority destination for manufacturing around the world. The discussion focused on the overall business climate in India as well as production linked incentive schemes, taxes and customs duties, labor challenges, competition from Asia Pacific countries, successes of U.S. industry in manufacturing, ways to build the component ecosystem, state to state opportunities, market access and need to reach higher product volumes to compete. Members from the aerospace and defense and electronics manufacturing sectors participated in the discussion. Mr. Travis Coberly, Trade and Technology Unit Chief, U.S. Embassy was present.
