Skill Development Committee

U.S. companies are playing a meaningful role in strengthening India’s skill ecosystem by working closely with national priorities and development goals. Through their CSR initiatives, many U.S. multinationals have aligned their efforts with flagship programs such as the Skill India Mission, the IndiaAI Mission, and initiatives of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), helping build a strong and effective public–private partnership ecosystem.
Within this broader skilling effort, artificial intelligence has become an important focus area. AI is rapidly transforming India’s economy, reshaping industries, and changing the nature of work. This shift calls for a workforce that is comfortable with data analytics, algorithm development, machine learning, and other advanced digital skills. In response, U.S. companies are using a range of collaborative approaches to support AI skilling. By aligning with the IndiaAI Mission, they are helping set up AI training infrastructure, promote digital literacy in emerging technologies, and create clear, employment-linked pathways that prepare learners for future-ready jobs. Together, these efforts show how corporate social responsibility is closely aligned with India’s technology ambitions.
Beyond workplace training, U.S. firms also work with educational institutions, vocational centers, and industry–academia partnerships to strengthen the overall talent pipeline and improve the employability and global competitiveness of Indian professionals. This corporate engagement is further supported by strong cooperation between India and the United States. In 2023, the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and the U.S. Department of State established the U.S.–India Working Group on Education and Skill Development. Through this platform, the Academic–Industry Collaboration for Skilling Task Force is helping bridge skills gaps, boost employability, and encourage entrepreneurship in both countries.
Looking ahead, expanding these corporate-led and collaborative programs, especially in emerging technology areas and underserved regions, will be key to helping India realize its ambition of becoming a global talent hub.
