Medical Devices Committee Interaction with Mr. Jonathan Heimer, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, U.S. Embassy

AMCHAM’s Medical Device Committee convened an engaging virtual session with Mr. Jonathan Heimer, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, U.S. Embassy, on August 11th virtually. Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General & CEO, AMCHAM, opened the session with a welcome address, followed by remarks from Mr. Chaitanya Sarawate, Vice Chairman, AMCHAM, Chairman – Medical Devices Committee, AMCHAM and President & CEO, GE Healthcare South Asia. Mr. Atul Grover, Co-Chairman – Medical Devices Committee, AMCHAM and Vice President and Managing Director, South Asia, Becton Dickinson India shared his perspectives on key sectoral challenges. Discussions covered a wide range of issues, including trade margin rationalization, price monitoring and control, knee implant notifications, Global Tender Enquiry (GTE) for new technology, Quality Control Orders (QCO), ensuring a level playing field, Public Procurement Order (PPO), Uniform Code for Medical Device Marketing Practices (UCMDMP), and Government e-Marketplace (GeM) licensing. Mr. Heimer provided insights on U.S.–India trade relations, tariffs, and opportunities to advance the medical devices sector. He encouraged members to submit a consolidated note for the U.S. government to facilitate engagement with the USTR. He also reaffirmed the joint commitment expressed by the Indian Prime Minister and U.S. President to increase bilateral trade to $500 billion, while recognizing the significant GCC investments by U.S. companies in India. Mr. Naveen Kumar Rai, Senior Policy Advisor, U.S. Embassy and Mr. Raman Ahuja, Commercial Specialist, U.S. Embassy joined the meeting which had 25+ participants.
