How Can Industry Better Partner with Universities: Lessons from the Most Innovative University in the USA

AMCHAM, in partnership with Cintana Education, organized a roundtable on ‘How Can Industry Better Partner with Universities: Lessons from the Most Innovative University in the USA’ led by Dr. Michael M. Crow, President, Arizona State University (ASU) on February 3rd in New Delhi. The session’s objective was to understand and discuss best practices for industry-academia collaboration, corporate skilling initiatives, emerging trends that address skilling gaps and enhancing employability. Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM welcomed the ASU delegation and participants. In her welcome remarks, she spoke about the existing skills gap and the dire need of industry-academia partnerships. She spoke about the advent of digital skills and the impact it would have on the entire skilling and education ecosystem. She also talked about the success of GCCs in India and how they are moving deep in the value chain. Dr. Michael M. Crow, in his remarks, highlighted the teaching – learning gap and the inability of academia to catch up to the rapid industry requirements. The role of agility is more important in the present times specifically in the learning methods used. ASU, being the most innovative university, embraces and promote innovation. He spoke about the lack of universities that embrace innovation faster. Dr. Crow shared examples of industry collaboration in various fields, including AI, and reiterated the importance of partnerships with industry. His address was followed by an industry interaction. The interaction covered areas of AI collaboration, school education, global learning platforms, diploma courses, customised courses, programs for non-completers, manufacturing 5.0, ESG, start-ups, technical skills, online courses, and collaboration with Indian universities, amongst others. The ASU delegation included: Dr. Chris Howard, COO & Executive VP, ASU, Dr. Charla Griffy-Brown, Dean and DG, Thunderbird School of Global Management, ASU, Mr. Patrick McDermott, Chief Global Advancement Officer of the Arizona State University Foundation, Mr. Kent Hopkins, VP, Academic Enterprise Enrollment, ASU, Dr. Rick Shangraw, President, Cintana Education and Mr. Chaitanya Chitta, VP & Regional Head, Cintana Education. Representatives from Applied Materials, Bausch & Lomb, Boeing, Brand USA, Deloitte, Flex, GE HealthCare, KPMG, PepsiCo, Smiths, Tecumseh, Visa and Vital Strategies participated in the roundtable.
