Roundtable with Mr. D. Balamurugan, Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India on U.S.-India Business Opportunities in the 12 Newly Announced Industrial Smart Cities

AMCHAM’s Infrastructure and Smart Cities Committee organized a roundtable with Mr. D. Balamurugan, Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India on September 11th in New Delhi. The objective of the interaction was to discuss U.S.-India business opportunities in the 12 newly announced industrial smart cities under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) of the government. Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM welcomed participants to the interaction and highlighted the significance of lowering the cost of logistics in India to make India a globally competitive investment destination with a prominent place in the global supply chain. She shared about the role that the U.S. companies can play in this critical initiative. Mr. Balamurugan gave a detailed presentation on the existing projects and the new industrial smart cities under the NICDP for which the government has earmarked investment of Rs. 28,000 crores and is based upon the PM Gatishakti principles. He invited industry to participate in these projects and laid emphasis on private participation for the success of the project. Mr. Ankur Malhotra, Director, Government Relations, Honeywell India initiated the discussions and spoke about the need for having economically, environmentally and socially sustainable smart industrial towns. Ms. Ritu Arora, Senior Commercial Specialist, U.S. Embassy joined the session. Members from Amazon, Autodesk, Baxter, Cushman and Wakefield, ExxonMobil, FTI Consulting, HPE, Honeywell, ITW, Intel, Nextdigm, Paulo Alto, Pinkerton, Protiviti, Rockwell, Smiths Group, Timken, Trimble and Turner attended the interaction.
