Interaction with Mr. Sethuraman Panchanathan, Director, U.S. National Science Foundation

AMCHAM was invited to participate in an industry discussion on August 22nd with visiting U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) officials led by Mr. Sethuraman Panchanathan, a computer scientist and engineer and the 15th Director of the U.S. NSF. He was accompanied by Dr. Kendra Sharp, Head, Office of International Science and Engineering (OISE), NSF, Mr. Brian Stone, Chief of Staff, NSF and Dr. Cate Flanley, Program Director, OISE, NSF. Key points discussed include:

  • NSF is launching and sharing with U.S. industry the joint call for proposals under MeitY-NSF collaboration from Indian and U.S. researchers which would focus on semiconductor, next gen communication, cyber security, sustainable technologies and intelligent transportation.
  • The NSF also introduced the Directorate for Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (TIP), led by Director Sethuraman Panchanathan. This would drive programs on industry partnerships on AI, semiconductors and quantum and aims to make strategic investments that expedite the growth of crucial technologies and tackle urgent societal and economic issues.
  • Mr. Panchanathan was keen on areas around secure supply chains and responsible AI and urged industry to create the right exemplars as U.S.-India enjoys a relationship of trust.
