2nd Healthcare Summit: Accelerating Innovative and Accessible Healthcare: Technology Transformation

AMCHAM organized the 2nd Healthcare Summit: Accelerating Innovative and Accessible Healthcare: Technology Transformation on July 16th at Hotel Taj Mahal in New Delhi. In the inaugural session, Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM welcomed participants. Mr. Rehan Khan, Chairman – Pharmaceuticals Committee, AMCHAM and Managing Director, India Region, MSD Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. delivered opening remarks and set the context for the summit. Ms. Genessa Giorgi, Health Attache, U.S. Embassy and Regional Representative for South Asia, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, shared the keynote address. Dr. Vinod Paul, Member, Niti Aayog, Government of India delivered the inaugural address. Mr. Chaitanya Sarawate, National Executive Board Member, AMCHAM, Chairman – Medical Devices Committee, AMCHAM and President & CEO, GE Healthcare South Asia, Managing Director, Wipro GE Healthcare, shared concluding remarks.

The session ‘Catalyzing Change – Innovation and R&D in Healthcare Transformation’ focused on emerging technologies, drug discovery and development, regulatory challenges and opportunities, collaboration and partnerships, healthcare access and equity, investment and funding and outlook. Mr. Madhukar Kumar Bhagat, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India delivered a special address and shared his vision for transformation. Cdr Divya Prakash Joshi, Vice President & Site Leader, Medtronic Engineering & Innovation Center moderated a panel discussion with Dr. Suchita Markan, Scientist E, Mission-in-Charge & Member Secretary, Medical Device and Diagnostics Mission Secretariat Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar, Dean (R&D), Industrial Research & Development (IRD) Unit, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Dr. Arijit Guha, Principal Manager, Medical Affairs, Boston Scientific India and Ms. Genessa Giorgi, Health Attaché, U.S. Embassy, Regional Representative for South Asia, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The session ‘Enabling Policy & Regulatory Framework’ covered issues pertaining to the regulatory environment, market access strategies, local manufacturing and R&D, partnerships and collaborations, compliance and quality standards, pricing advocacy and engagement, risk management and legal considerations. This session began with a video message by Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO, Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ). Mr. Ravindra Pratap Singh, Joint Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, delivered a special address. The panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Madan Krishnan, Vice President, Managing Director India Subcontinent and Commercial Operations & Excellence APAC, Boston Scientific with Mr. Sanjay Bhutani, Honorary Secretary & Treasurer, AMCHAM and Managing Director – India & SAARC, Bausch & Lomb India and Mr. Chaitanya Sarawate, National Executive Board Member, AMCHAM, Chairman – Medical Devices Committee, AMCHAM and President & CEO, GE HealthCare South Asia, Managing Director, Wipro GE Healthcare. 

For the valedictory session, Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM welcomed the Minister of State. Mr. Som Satsangi, Chairman, AMCHAM and SVP and Managing Director, India Hewlett Packard Enterprise shared opening remarks. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge); Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences & Minister of State; Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Space, Government of India delivered the valedictory address. Mr. Madan Krishnan, Vice President, Managing Director India Subcontinent and Commercial Operations & Excellence APAC, Boston Scientific shared the concluding remarks and vote of thanks.
