The U.S. Consulate Kolkata, in collaboration with AMCHAM’s Eastern Region hosted open data and privacy rights expert, Mr. Daniel Castro, Vice President, Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) and director of ITIF’s Center for Data Innovation, in Kolkata on November 1st. Mr. Daniel Castro addressed members on ‘Open Data, Cross Border Privacy Rights’ under the U.S. government’s Indo-Pacific strategy theme. He widely discussed India’s privacy policies, the digital India program, and data integration policies in smart cities while assessing open data policies globally.

He also spoke on the risks and opportunities of open data and cloud computing versus data localization in the global scenario. Mr. Kris Das, Deputy Director American Center and Public Affairs Officer attended the session and addressed members on the role of the American Center in Eastern India and its programs.
