Powering Growth: A Conversation with Mr. Arun Venkataraman, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets, and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service, U.S. Department of Commerce on Electronics Manufacturing – 19 October 2023
AMCHAM organized a roundtable discussion with Mr. Arun Venkataraman, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets, and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service, U.S. Department of Commerce on electronics manufacturing on October 19th in New Delhi. During the discussions, under the leadership of Assistant Secretary Venkataraman, the Department of Commerce conveyed its keen interest in fostering regional partnerships and conveyed gratitude for the amicable reception extended by the Indian government. The meeting encompassed deliberations on supply chain management, evolving trade dynamics, and bolstering India’s diversification efforts. AMCHAM members lauded the commendable policy reforms in India and acknowledged its burgeoning electronics market. Furthermore, discussions ensued concerning patents, funding allocation, semiconductor, and electronics design capabilities, which have the potential to fortify a robust global supply chain. Assistant Secretary Venkataraman expressed his appreciation for the significant contribution of U.S. industry to electronics exports, employment generation, and the fostering of a growth-enabling environment in the U.S.-India technology corridor.
The Assistant Secretary was joined by the following colleagues: Mr. Ike Ummunah, Senior Policy Advisor, U.S. Department of Commerce, Mr. Alberto Alberto, Policy Advisor, U.S. Department of Commerce, Mr. Matthew Eiss, India Desk Officer, U.S. Department of Commerce and the following officials from the U.S. Embassy: Mr. Jonathan Heimer, Honorary National Executive Board, AMCHAM and Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, Ms. Durra Elmaki, Commercial Attaché, Mr. Sudhir Kesharwani, Senior Commercial Specialist and Mr. Naveen Kumar Rai, Senior Commercial Specialist. Members from Apple, HP, Johnson & Johnson, Dell, AMD and Applied Materials participated in the session.
