AMCHAM’s Eastern Region started its operation in 2006. Since then, it has emerged as a prominent business network, hosting events and forums to facilitate knowledge-sharing and networking among members. The financial year 2024-25 has commenced with a renewed focus, featuring a series of strategically planned programs and initiatives aimed at fostering economic dialogue and understanding.

Regular Programs and Interactive Sessions 

  • Political and Economic Insights with CSIS Expert

An engaging session with Mr. Richard M. Rossow, Senior Adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), which focused on the political and economic implications of India’s changing political landscape for U.S. companies. The discussion emphasized trade, investment, and strategic challenges. 

  • Budget Perspective by Renowned Economists

The Eastern Region hosted Mr. Gurcharan Das, a renowned economist and former CEO of Procter & Gamble India, to provide a comprehensive macroeconomic perspective on the Union Budget 2024. Drawing from his extensive experience as a business leader and economic thinker, Mr. Das shared expert insights on desirable policy calibrations.

  • Post-Budget Analysis with Economic Advisory Council Member

A virtual post-budget session featuring Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal, Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM, themed ‘Budget 2024: The Road Ahead,’ offered valuable insights into the budgetary implications and future economic strategies.

North-East Focus: Exploring Investment Opportunities

  • An interactive session was organized with the North-East Division of Invest India focused on identifying key investment sectors across the northeastern states of India. This session aimed to highlight the potential and promise of the region’s emerging economic landscape.
  • Coordinating with the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland to organize a session highlighting investment opportunities in Nagaland.

Economic Affairs and Policy Advocacy

  • Launce of AMCHAM’s Thought Leadership Series

The ‘Thought Leadership Series: Insights from Top Economists on World Dynamics, Investment Trends, and India’s Economic Future’ was launched in 2024. The inaugural session featured Dr. Arvind Virmani, Member (with Minister of State status), NITI Aayog. Dr. Virmani provided valuable insights into current global economic dynamics and their potential impact on the Indian economy.

  • Conducting Surveys and Preparing Reports

AMCHAM’s Eastern Region has undertaken two significant nationwide surveys:

  • Contribution of U.S. Companies in the Skill Development Ecosystem of India
  • Economic Impact of U.S. Companies in India

These surveys are currently in progress, with comprehensive reports expected to be developed and released at a dedicated forum at the beginning of 2025.

Association with the U.S. Consulate in Kolkata

  • Remains closely associated with through regular meetings and breakfast sessions with the U.S. Consulate in Kolkata to advance the interests of U.S. companies in the region.
  • The Eastern Region conducts periodic sessions on visa-related issues with the U.S. Consulate General Kolkata.

Government Engagement

  • Regular meetings with the Government of West Bengal take place to get actively involved in prominent activities in the state. This included meeting with Mr. Babul Supriyo, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Information Technology and Electronics, Government of West Bengal. 
  • Remains closely associated with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Enterprises, Government of West Bengal, WBIDC and Webel. Committee Based in the Eastern Region
