AMCHAM’s Eastern Region was invited by WBIDC to participate in the U.S. – India Commercial State Spotlight Webinar Series on ‘Doing Business in the State of West Bengal’ on July 11th. The webinar was the fifth webinar to be held under the U.S. – India State Spotlight Series as part of the U.S. – India Commercial Dialogue, with the objective of highlighting business opportunities in U.S. and Indian states and promoting cross-border trade and investment. This is expected to lead to mutual trade and investment opportunities and explore ways to better integrate businesses from India and the United States into global supply chains. The session was coordinated by the U.S. Commercial Service and SelectUSA in collaboration with Invest India, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India.

The participants from the Eastern Region were Mr. Craig Hall, U.S. Consul General, Mr. Debdas Sen, Chairman – Eastern Region, AMCHAM and CEO of TCG Digital Solutions, Mr. Harish Agarwal, Managing Partner – Kolkata, Ernst & Young LLP; Mr. Dr. S Kishore, IAS Principal Secretary, Dept. of Industry Commerce and Enterprises, Govt of West Bengal, and Ms. Vandana Yadav, IAS Managing Director, WBIDC and Export Commissioner. The participants gave an overview of West Bengal’s business climate, the direct access to government agencies making working with government on various issues and sanctions workable promising industry sectors where the Government of West Bengal welcomes U.S. company engagement. They spoke of their own Company experiences in the state and answered question that were fielded to them on the various issues raised by U.S. participants.
