Smart Manufacturing: Where Industry Meets Innovation

AMCHAM India, in collaboration with IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP), organized an industry engagement session on ‘Smart Manufacturing: Where Industry Meets Innovation’ on June 23rd at the IITMRP campus in Chennai. The session provided members with an opportunity to explore emerging technologies, innovation ecosystems, and industry-academia collaboration initiatives that are shaping the future of manufacturing in India. The program commenced with an interaction with the IIT Madras Research Park leadership team, who shared insights into IITMRP’s unique model of fostering innovation through collaboration between industry, academia, start-ups, and researchers. Participants were also introduced to the park’s role in accelerating technology commercialization and supporting India’s innovation ecosystem.

Members visited the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMTDC), gaining first-hand exposure to the Centre of Excellence for Smart Manufacturing and its work in advanced manufacturing, automation, industry 4.0, product development, and rapid prototyping. The visit highlighted how cutting-edge technologies are being leveraged to improve productivity, quality, and operational efficiency across industries. A key highlight of the program was the interaction with select IITMRP-supported start-ups, including Crion Technologies, Nirbhav Automation, and MiBot. The start-up representatives showcased innovative solutions spanning digital twins, industrial IoT, predictive maintenance, robotics, smart automation, machine vision, and AI-powered industrial safety systems, demonstrating the growing role of deep-tech innovation in transforming manufacturing operations.

The session concluded with an insightful presentation by Prof. G.L. Samuel of IIT Madras, who shared perspectives on the future of smart manufacturing, industry 4.0, digital twins, and intelligent data-driven manufacturing systems. His remarks underscored the importance of advanced automation, precision engineering, and industry-academia collaboration in driving the next wave of industrial transformation. The visit offered AMCHAM members valuable exposure to emerging manufacturing technologies and innovative start-up solutions that are contributing to India’s journey toward a smarter and more globally competitive manufacturing sector.
