Roundtable with Ambassador Richard Verma and Ambassador Nirupama Rao, Co-Chairs, Center for American Progress U.S.-India Task Force – 16th January 2018

With the increasing importance of the U.S. – India partnership to advancing shared interests in global peace, prosperity, and freedom, AMCHAM organized a roundtable with the Co-Chairs for the Center for American Progress Task Force on U.S. – India Relations, Ambassador Richard Verma and Ambassador Nirupama Rao, on 16th January at the office of Lockheed Martin India in New Delhi.

Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM, welcomed participants and Mr. Pratyush Kumar, Chairman, AMCHAM and President, Boeing India, gave opening remarks. The Ambassadors discussed the task force report, The United States and India: Forging an Indispensable Democratic Partnership, which outlined a path forward for the bilateral relationship focusing on five key areas: investing in jobs and economic opportunities; building a clean energy future from the bottom up; creating a U.S.-India security advantage in Asia; strengthening democratic institutions at home and around the world; and strengthening ties between Indians and Americans.

The Q&A touched upon how to make infrastructure a key shared area of focus, enhancing energy efficiency by bringing together government and private sector experts, starting a Future of Work Dialogue to refine policy solutions, definition of Major Defense Partner, how the telecom sector can upgrade India’s public safety and cyber security.
