Meeting with U.S. Embassy Officials on Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Digital Twin Technologies

AMCHAM’s Infrastructure & Smart Cities Committee members had a meeting with U.S. Embassy officials on April 9th, 2026 at the American Center, New Delhi, to discuss advancing U.S.-India collaboration on the potential mandate of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and digital twin technologies across key infrastructure sectors, including railways, roads and highways, airports and ports. Mr. Jonathan Heimer, Honorary National Executive Board Member, AMCHAM and Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, U.S. Embassy appreciated the ongoing efficiency improvement in infrastructure sector in India and extended support to AMCHAM members. Mr. Rajan Aiyer, Chairman – Tamil Nadu Chapter, AMCHAM, Chairman – Infrastructure & Smart Cities Committee, AMCHAM and Managing Director, Trimble India, spoke about how the digital revolution in construction can bring about higher quality, enhanced safety and greener infrastructure development in India. Members deliberated upon the urgent need for mandating BIM and digital twin technologies across the infrastructure sector and how this can lead to better resource utilization, reducing government expenditure, enhancing predictive maintenance and ensuring better asset utilization. The meeting was attended by Ms. Xiaobing Feng, Principal Commercial Officer, U.S. Embassy, Ms. Anamika Chakravorty, Economic Officer, U.S. Embassy, Ms. Ritu Arora, Sr. Commercial Specialist, U.S. Embassy, Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM, Ms. Valerie Swope, Program Coordinator, AMCHAM and Ms. Geeta Poduval, Director, AMCHAM. Representatives from Autodesk, Google, Honeywell, Jacobs, Microsoft and Trimble participated in the discussions.
