Meeting with Mr. E. Srinivas, Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India on PM Gati Shakti
AMCHAM met with Mr. E. Srinivas, Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India on March 12th at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi. Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM highlighted the objective of the meeting, which was to discuss guidelines on how the Government of India was planning to give the private sector access to Gati Shakti data to assist the private sector in project planning. Mr. Srinivas delineated the PM Gati Shakti – National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP), launched by the Honorable Prime Minister of India in 2021, which targets the enabling of a coordinated approach for infrastructure planning and development by leveraging advanced GIS technology and decision support systems. With 44 central Ministries and 36 States/UTs onboarded, the platform has a total of 1,600 data layers. The PM Gati Shakti platform has transformed the planning process for central and state government with availability of data on a single platform resulting in an integrated and coordinated approach. The Union Budget 2025-26 marked a pivotal moment in India’s infrastructure development, he said, with the announcement of the opening of selective PM Gati Shakti data layers for the private sector. In the initial phase, the framework is under development for private sector to get the information from a simple query interface through the platform. Subsequently, private sector will be able to consume the data through downloading/API or publish the data as per requirements of project planning. Members discussed the various modalities that could be considered by DPIIT while opening up the data to the private sector, which Mr. Srinivas agreed to consider. The meeting was attended by representatives from 3M, Autodesk, Carrier, CBRE, Dua Associates, Dun & Bradstreet, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Intel, Philip Morris International, UPS, Viatris and Ms. Geeta Poduval, Director, AMCHAM.
