Meeting with Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal
Members of AMCHAM’s Eastern Region met Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal, on August 14th in Kolkata, for a constructive discussion on opportunities in MedTech, artificial intelligence in healthcare, and global capability centers (GCCs). The interaction provided an opportunity for members to share perspectives on emerging technologies and potential applications in the healthcare sector. Discussions covered the scope for greater industry participation, innovation, and investment in advanced healthcare technologies. The Hon’ble Minister emphasized the importance of attracting large-scale investment by U.S. companies into West Bengal and encouraged members to explore opportunities for deeper engagement with the state. He also highlighted the potential for industry to contribute to innovative applications of technology in healthcare.
The discussion particularly highlighted emerging applications of AI in healthcare. Deloitte shared its work on the application of AI in areas such as mental health and oncology, demonstrating the potential of technology-led solutions to address complex healthcare challenges. Representatives from Data Core Systems, Deloitte and Hyland explored opportunities for innovation, investment, and collaboration. AMCHAM reaffirmed its commitment to supporting greater engagement between U.S. companies and the Government of West Bengal, particularly in emerging areas such as MedTech, AI, healthcare innovation, and GCCs. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides recognizing the potential for further government-industry collaboration to promote investment and innovation in West Bengal’s healthcare ecosystem.
