A small group of AMCHAM members met with Mr. P Raghvendra Rao, Interim Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India, on July 2nd. The objective of the meeting was to introduce AMCHAM and apprise him on the discussions AMCHAM has had with various government departments on topics related to the medical devices industry. The main topic discussed was trade margin rationalization for medical devices. Other topics discussed included the need for a separate Medical Devices Act and the need for incentivizing the sector by the government.
The Secretary requested for a note on incentivizing the sector to be submitted to him. Meeting participants included Mr. Pavan Mocherla, Managing Director, BD India, Mr. Vibhav Garg, VP, GE, Ms. Shubhra Thakur, HEGA, Boston Scientific and Mr. Amit Kumar Singh, Director – GA, India Medtronic. Mr. Navdeep Rinwa, Joint Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, also joined the meeting. AMCHAM was represented by Mr. Gaurav Mendiratta.
