Medical Devices Committee Meeting

On October 4th, a core group of AMCHAM’s Medical Device Committee under the leadership of Mr. Chaitanya Sarawate, Chairman – Medical Devices Committee, AMCHAM and Managing Director, Wipro GE Healthcare & President & CEO, GE Healthcare South Asia, Mr. Anuj Virmani, Co-Chairman – Medical Devices Committee, AMCHAM and Managing Director, Johnson and Johnson and Mr. Atul Grover, Co-Chairman – Medical Devices Committee, AMCHAM and Vice President and Managing Director, South Asia, BD, convened a strategic planning meeting virtually. The meeting focused on setting key priorities and aligning the committee’s efforts to advocate for policies that will shape and drive growth in the medical device sector. Key focus areas identified include continuing to promote ease of doing business and access to quality and innovative healthcare. The committee will prioritize advocacy on critical industry issues such as: Clarification on the Uniform Code for Medical Device Marketing Practices (UCMPMD), pricing concerns including trade margin rationalization (TMR), resolution of issues related to knee implants and stents, Public Procurement Order (PPO) covering local content and preferential treatment considerations, e-waste management and compliance with Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), regulatory standards harmonization and facilitating smoother customs clearance via ICE GATE. The committee would continue to work towards shaping a conducive policy environment for the medical device industry, ensuring that quality healthcare innovations remain accessible across India. Members from BD, Boston Scientific, GE HealthCare and Johnson & Johnson participated.
