Members of both the Pharmaceuticals Committee and Medical Devices Committee met jointly on October 5th virtually to discuss and plan the healthcare event ‘Innovative Approaches for Affordable and Accessible Cancer Care’ scheduled on Cancer Awareness Day, November 7th in New Delhi. The meeting was conducted under the leadership of Ms. Neelima Dwivedi, Co-Chairperson – Pharmaceuticals Committee, AMCHAM and ED, MSD. This healthcare session would focus on the entire continuum in cancer care management, in a holistic approach and how to bring early diagnosis screening to innovative therapies and palliative care. Current schemes like Ayushman Bharat / PMJAY may not be sufficient, hence there could be a financial model which could be explored to improve PMJAY and include universal health coverage, especially in cancer care. Key stakeholders to be invited for this session include NHA, Niti Aayog, MD-NHM, MoHFW, National Cancer Society, health insurers, etc. In order to further strengthen cancer care all innovative diagnostics, therapy and financing would need to be aligned. Members from MSD, Mylan, BD, GE Healthcare, Vital Strategies, Bio Rad and BSAG participated in the meeting.
