Interaction with Mr. Robert Garverick, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Trade Policy and Negotiations, Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, U.S. Department of State
AMCHAM organized an interaction with Mr. Robert Garverick, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Trade Policy and Negotiations, Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, U.S. Department of State on September 12th in New Delhi. Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM warmly welcomed participants. She thanked Mr. Garverick for continuously championing the U.S.-India partnership and his support of AMCHAM while he was posted at the U.S. Embassy in India. In his remarks, Mr. Garverick gave an overview of the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act and updated members on how the U.S. has now partnered with India’s Semiconductor Mission to bolster the global semiconductor ecosystem. Participants discussed challenges and opportunities around raw material dependences, production linked incentive schemes, IPEF, workforce development initiatives, diversification of the supply chain, need for friendshoring, public procurement challenges, potential partnerships with U.S. universities, global food security and local content requirements across sectors. U.S. industry shared about the extent and value of their R&D in India, however noted that when calculating the indigenous content for Make in India, it is not considered. Mr. Mark Simeone, EB CHIPS-ITSI Program Analyst, Office of Multilateral Trade Affairs, U.S. Department of State, Ms. Nazneen Akbari, Senior Economic Advisor, U.S. Embassy and Ms. Nikika Aggarwal, Senior Commercial Specialist, U.S. Embassy joined the meeting. Representatives from BAE Systems, Boeing, Cargill, Dell Technologies, GE HealthCare, Honeywell, HPE and Kenvue participated in the candid discussion.
