Interaction with Mr. Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary, DIPP – 25th September 2017

AMCHAM met with Mr. Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, GOI, on 25th September in New Delhi. Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM, welcomed members and thanked the Secretary for his time. It was the second meeting in a series of ongoing interactions between the DIPP and AMCHAM on a quarterly basis. Secretary Abhishek was accompanied by Mr. Rajiv Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, DIPP, Ms. Margaret Gangte, Director, DIPP and Invest India.

Mr. Amit Bansal, Co-Chairman – Manufacturing Committee, AMCHAM and Managing Director, Corning India, made opening remarks on the overall challenges to the manufacturing industry in India, such as, the need for clarity on the new public procurement policy, support from local authorities on infrastructure obstacles, interpretation of HSN codes pertaining to GST, modernization and integration of port facilities and labor law, among others.

Mr. Amit Bansal also moderated a sector-wise dialogue that covered manufacturing challenges in agriculture and food processing, automotive, construction and mining equipment, defense, electronics and ICT, medical devices, paper and pulp, and transportation industries. The companies represented at the meeting included BAE Sytems India, Coca Cola, Corning India, Caterpillar India, Delphi, Edwards Lifesciences, GE India, HP, India Medtronic, Intel, International Paper, IPM India Wholesale Trading, Lockheed Martin, Owens Corning, PepsiCo, Tecumseh and United Technologies Corporation.
