AMCHAM’s Agriculture & Food Processing Committee met Dr. Subrata Gupta, Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India at his office on April 4^th, 2025. Members shared their technology interventions and focussed programs aimed at doubling the income of farmers, women’s empowerment, education and skilling, generating gainful employment, greater value addition, increased productivity and promoting sustainability. Members also discussed issues ranging from misleading advertisements and its adverse impact on business operations, HFSS (high in fat, salt, and sugar) foods, ultra processed foods, GST rate rationalization, tariff and non-tariff barriers in alcoholic beverage sector, issues around rPET, proper implementation of SAFTA vis-à-vis edible oil imports, easing cocoa imports in India, ambiguity in the nutraceuticals sector, etc. The interaction explored avenues for greater collaboration and the way forward for enhancing the food value chain.
