The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Ms. Mamta Banerjee, laid the foundation stone at the Bengal Silicon Valley IT Hub on August 13th in Kolkata. The strategy of the Information Technology and Electronics Department of the state government is to create a futuristic test-bed for South Asia’s unique needs while building a solid R&D capacity aimed at ensuring competition and a talent center in the near future. In a recent initiative, the Government of West Bengal has decided to set up an exclusive Bengal Silicon Valley Hub, a technology hub in the technology-rich Sector-5 and Rajarhat ecosystem of Kolkata, resembling Silicon Valley in California.
The Bengal Silicon Valley Hub will be spread over 100 acres of land at the center of technology Rajarhat – Sector 5, Kolkata and is proposed to provide Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) in a unique setting that will provide co-working spaces, innovation lab, R&D centre and a creative environment that will be at par with any global set up. Members of the IT community, including AMCHAM members, were invited to attend this prestigious event. Amazon Internet Services, Genpact, Accenture and Cognizant were amongst some of the companies who have committed to increasing their foot print in the state.
