Members of the AMCHAM’s Energy Committee met on August 25th to review the progress of the position paper on recommendations for the use of energy efficiency technologies and low GWP refrigerants in HVAC/R primarily. The meeting was led by Mr. Chirag Baijal, Co-Chairman – Energy Committee, AMCHAM, National Executive Board Member, AMCHAM and Chairman & MD, Carrier India. The other participants were from Johnson Controls, Honeywell UOP and Carrier. It was agreed to create a wholistic document with a balanced view which would be progressive for the economy and the country.
It was felt that the key objectives of energy efficiency and sustainable development should be balanced with the priorities of the government together with a forward-looking view which addresses issues such as climate change. Subsequent meetings will debate members inputs towards finalizing the document. The committee also felt that it had a much bigger role to play in the energy sector with areas such as the health impact of HVAC and a seed fund for technology-based interventions to improve efficiency and GWP to start with.
