Data Centers Committee Meeting
AMCHAM’s Data Centers Committee held a meeting on June 23rd at the office of S&P Global to deliberate upon the growth of the data center industry in India and partnership opportunities for U.S. industry. Mr Nilam Patel, Chairman – Data Centers Committee, AMCHAM and Managing Director, India Operations, S&P Global welcomed members to the first meeting of the committee while highlighting the growing significance of the data center industry in India and various initiatives required to scale the existing gaps in industry, relating to skill development, data protection, energy and power availability, and regulatory framework. Mr. Manoj Paul, Co-Chairman – Data Centers Committee and Managing Director, Equinix India, spoke about the role that AMCHAM can play in bringing more data center investment into India, providing technological support to state governments and the need for pacifying public sentiments on environmental concerns due to large numbers of data centers coming into existence. Ms. Geeta Poduval, Director, AMCHAM, detailed the objectives of the Data Centers Committee. Members discussed industry concerns regarding import duties for data center equipment, fire safety norms, cooling solutions, water recycling, Make in India provisions, power transmission, construction policies, access to critical GPUs, cyber security, BESS, green data centers and GST rationalization. The meeting was attended by representatives from AWS, AMD, Autodesk, Blackstone, Carrier, Cushman & Wakefield, Dell, Emerson, FTI Consulting, GE Vernova, Honeywell, Intel, Meta, Microsoft, Trimble and Mr. Aditya Gupta, Consultant, AMCHAM.
