AMCHAM’s Eastern Region organized a virtual roundtable on ‘AI in Life Sciences & Healthcare: Innovation to Impact – Unlocking Value and Scaling AI in Healthcare & Life Sciences’ on June 18th. Moderated by Mr. Joydeep Ghosh, Partner, Life Sciences & Health Care Leader, Deloitte South Asia, the discussion brought together industry, academia, and government experts to explore how AI is transforming healthcare delivery, MedTech innovation, diagnostics, drug discovery, and patient outcomes. The speakers emphasized the need to move beyond pilot projects and focus on scalable, outcome-driven AI solutions supported by interoperable data, workforce readiness, and cross-sector collaboration. Mr. Sharad Bajpai, Managing Director, South Asia, Teleflex Medical Private Limited, highlighted AI’s growing role in clinical decision-making, personalized care, and operational efficiency. Dr. Suman Chakraborty, Director and Professor, IIT Kharagpur, stressed the importance of designing AI solutions around real healthcare challenges, affordability, accessibility, and population-scale impact. Dr. Saurav Basu, Scientist-E, National Institute for Research in Digital Health (ICMR), discussed the opportunities and challenges of AI deployment in public health, including validation, digital literacy, ethics, and governance. The discussion concluded that AI should augment healthcare professionals rather than replace them, with success ultimately measured by improved access, equity, and patient outcomes. The program was well attended by members.
