Representation to Consider the Reconstitution Principle in the FOPNL (Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labelling) Model

Under the aegis of the Agriculture & Food Processing Committee, a representation to consider the Reconstitution Principle in the FOPNL (Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labelling) Model was submitted to the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The representation seeks inclusion of the reconstitution principle for products intended to be consumed only after preparation, ensuring that nutrient profiling and FOPNL assessment better reflect actual consumer consumption patterns. The proposal is to assess such products based on their ready-to-consume/reconstituted nutritional values and serving size, as per label directions, to better reflect actual consumer intake, and support meaningful consumer choice. AMCHAM has also suggested category-specific guidance for products requiring mandatory preparation.
