AMCHAM’s Western Region organized a roundtable session on ‘Future-Ready Food Systems: Strategic Partnerships for Nutrition Security’ on August 12^th, in collaboration with the UN World Food Programme (WFP) India. The session was hosted by Colgate-Palmolive at their office in Mumbai, bringing together senior CSR and ESG leaders from member companies across financial services, FMCG, healthcare, technology, and professional services. The session opened with a welcome address that framed India’s dual identity as operator of the world’s largest food-based social protection system and, at the same time, home to one of the world’s most pressing nutrition security challenges – positioning the session as an opportunity for corporate India to play a meaningful role in closing that gap. The keynote address was delivered by Ms. Elisabeth Faure, Country Director and Representative, WFP India, who provided an overview of WFP India’s Country Strategic Plan 2023–2027 and the scale of the country’s nutrition security challenge. Her address highlighted that India is home to an estimated 43 million malnourished children, with over half of women and children affected by micronutrient deficiencies, and that climate change is projected to push an additional 17 million people into hunger by 2030. She noted that these challenges sit alongside significant opportunities – including India’s young population, its position as one of the world’s largest economies, and its mandatory CSR regime, which together create a structured ecosystem for corporate capital to be deployed toward zero hunger (SDG-2). Ms. Faure outlined WFP India’s pilot-to-scale approach across social protection systems, nutrition and school meals, women’s economic mobility, and climate-resilient food systems, and spoke to where corporate partners could meaningfully engage – from co-funding and technical collaboration to piloting innovations for scale-up with government. This was followed by a roundtable discussion with member companies, moderated by Mr. Kaustuv Chakrabarti, Head, Private Sector Partnerships and SSTC, WFP India. The discussion saw active participation from member representatives, with key questions raised on potential partnership and co-funding models, and how these could align with companies’ existing CSR mandates. The session concluded with closing remarks by Colgate-Palmolive, followed by a networking high tea.
