AMCHAM members from the semiconductor sector met with Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA), Government of India and Dr. Parvinder Maini, Scientific Secretary, Office of PSA, for a productive dialogue, with a focus on strengthening India’s role in the global semiconductor value chain and advancing capabilities in this strategic sector. The PSA emphasized that India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 is expected to extend beyond FAB manufacturing to include R&D and academia linkages, support for start-ups, with an ambition of capturing 20% of global chip design activity. The discussions focused on fostering a robust innovation and talent ecosystem by strengthening R&D on high-end semiconductor technology and semiconductor physics at national labs, centers of excellence and incubators, building scale for domestic as well as global value supply chains, design-linked incentive for components and displays. Advancing opportunities, including 6G, for U.S.-India partnership under Pax Silica was also discussed.
