Meeting with Dr. Kalyan Chakraborti, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Information Technology & Electronics, Government of West Bengal
AMCHAM’s Eastern Region members met Dr. Kalyan Chakraborti, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Information Technology & Electronics, Government of West Bengal, on July 30th at Webel Bhawan, Kolkata, to discuss strengthening West Bengal’s competitive advantages and positioning the state as a preferred investment destination for the information technology and electronics sectors. The discussions highlighted West Bengal’s key strengths, including its cost competitiveness, strategic location, and highly skilled talent pool. Members emphasized the need to further enhance the ease of doing business through faster approvals, an effective single-window clearance system, improved infrastructure, and better connectivity.
The Minister sought industry feedback on the challenges faced by businesses and invited suggestions to address existing bottlenecks. He reaffirmed the Government of West Bengal’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment and creating a conducive investment climate. He also requested AMCHAM to help showcase the new government’s industry-focused vision and support its efforts to attract greater foreign investment. Both sides underscored the importance of sustained government-industry collaboration to strengthen the state’s competitiveness. The discussion explored opportunities in global capability centers (GCCs), artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and other advanced technology sectors.
AMCHAM appreciated the government’s ongoing efforts to reform the state’s industrial policy framework and stressed the importance of a modern, investor-friendly policy with streamlined approvals, robust investment facilitation mechanisms, and competitive incentives to attract greater private investment and foreign direct investment. AMCHAM reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Government of West Bengal through policy advocacy, industry expertise, and engagement with leading U.S. companies to advance the state’s economic development agenda.
