AMCHAM’s Pharmaceuticals Committee held a constructive meeting with Mr. Satyaprakash T.L., Joint Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India, on April 23rd at his office. The interaction brought together senior leaders from leading U.S. pharmaceutical companies operating in India for a focused dialogue on key policy and regulatory issues impacting the sector. This meeting was led by Ms. Meenakshi Nevatia, National Executive Board Member, AMCHAM, Chairperson – Pharmaceuticals Committee, AMCHAM and Country President & Managing Director, Pfizer India. Key areas of discussion included GTE inclusions and exclusions, fast-track regulatory pathways and the need to further streamline and accelerate approvals, inclusion of life-saving medicines in the Basic Customs Duty (BCD) exemption list based on their therapeutic importance, Rule 101, patent linkage, and the Uniform Code for Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP) exclusions on healthcare professions training and measures to address the challenge of counterfeit drugs. AMCHAM also extended a formal invitation to the Joint Secretary to address its 4th Healthcare Summit, scheduled for April 30th in New Delhi. Representatives from Eli Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, MSD Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer Limited, and Ms. Elizabeth Jose, Director, AMCHAM, participated.
