Meeting of the GCC Advisory Committee under the Chairmanship of Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India
AMCHAM participated in a meeting of the GCC Advisory Committee convened on April 13th under the chairmanship of Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
Key discussion points included:
- National Framework for GCCs: An update was shared on the latest developments concerning key enablers identified during stakeholder consultations for drafting the National Framework for GCCs. These included areas such as international taxation reforms (including Safe Harbour Rules) and labour law considerations.
- Future-Ready Talent Ecosystem: Committee members presented their suggestions on building a future-ready talent ecosystem, with emphasis on aligning academic outcomes with industry requirements, strengthening industry-academia linkages, and enhancing employability.
- Initiatives by Government Bodies: Representatives from the Department of Higher Education (DHE), AICTE, UGC and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) shared their ongoing and proposed initiatives aimed at developing a skilled and future-ready workforce to support GCC growth.
- Constitution of Sub-Committee: It was discussed and agreed to constitute a dedicated GCC sub-committee focused on talent development to drive focused interventions and coordination among stakeholders.
- Enabling Equitable Growth: Deliberations were held on strategies to accelerate the growth of GCCs in India, including promoting expansion into emerging Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, supported by enabling policy frameworks and talent availability.
