Seeking Inclusion of Select Life-saving Medicines in the Basic Customs Duty (BCD) Exemption List

AMCHAM submitted a representation to the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, seeking the inclusion of select life-saving medicines in the Basic Customs Duty (BCD) exemption list. This request builds on the government’s recent initiative in the Union Budget to exempt certain cancer drugs, aimed at improving patient access and affordability. While appreciating this positive step, AMCHAM highlighted that some critical therapies—particularly those used in the treatment of cancer, rare diseases, and other high unmet need conditions—remain outside the current exemption list.
