Members of  AMCHAM’s Defense Committee met with Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, IAS, Secretary Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, Government of India at his office on September 10^th. Mr. Alain Garcia, Chairman – Defense Committee, AMCHAM and Vice President, International Business Development, Boeing Defense Space & Security, Boeing India Defense, Mr. Pankaj Kaushik, Director Government Relations, BAE Systems India, Mr. Sureet Hazra, Country Head Defense, Honeywell International (India), Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM and Wg Cdr Rajiv Anand, Senior Director, AMCHAM joined the meeting. Make In India, MRO issues, co-production and co-development as well as challenges faced by the U.S. defense industry in India were discussed. AMCHAM thanked the government for reduction in taxes connected with MRO and highlighted that OEMs are now preparing to invest in component MRO for India and APAC. It was suggested that further reduction in taxes may be considered in order to compare with the Middle East and other global markets. Revision in DAP categories, constraints in IP rights, and encouraging manufacturing in India were also discussed. Emphasis was laid on the issue of prescribed 50% indigenous content for Make in India and suggestions were made to consider some relief and permit reaching the prescribed 50% through a cumulative build up plan over a period of time during the contract duration and not upfront as prescribed presently. The Secretary Defence Production suggested meeting with AMCHAM again for more similar discussions.
