AMCHAM’s Eastern Region organized a session with Mr. Gurcharan Das on July 17^th virtually to provide a macroeconomic perspective on Union Budget 2024. As a renowned economist and former Chief Executive Officer of Procter & Gamble India and Vice President for Asia, he shared his expert opinion on the desirable policy calibrations that the budget should reflect. Mr. Das addressed several complex issues, including job creation, the need to adopt labour-intensive technologies, desired reforms in labour laws, the adoption of sustainable development practices, and prioritizing infrastructure development. He emphasized the importance of capitalizing on India’s strong agricultural foundation and developing agri-processing industries to create both income and employment. The role of FDI in India’s overall development was also discussed. Mr. Das had a productive interaction with participants and the session was well attended by members.
