On May 8th, AMCHAM’s Western Region Executive Committee convened for a meeting with Mr. Mike Hankey, Consul General, U.S. Consulate General Mumbai and his colleagues: Mr. Joe Yang, Principal Commercial Officer, Mr. Andrew Caruso, Economic Officer, Mr. John McCadams, Commercial Officer, and Ms. Shamli Menon, Senior Commercial Specialist. Consul General Hankey shared his expectations and ideas on how AMCHAM and the Consulate could collaborate to define a strategic partnership. He emphasized the significance of elevating the level of the modus operandi of each company operating in Maharashtra, thereby not only facilitating their operations but also enhancing the overall business environment. The discussion revolved around insights regarding the initiatives that AMCHAM could undertake in collaboration with the Consulate to support American companies operating in India. Avinash Gupta, National Executive Board Member, AMCHAM and Managing Director, Dun & Bradstreet, Mr. Anil Bhatia, Chairman – Energy Committee, AMCHAM and MD, Emerson, Mr. Hitesh Sharma, Partner, Ernst & Young and Ms. Rakhi Sikka, Regional Director – Western Region, AMCHAM, exchanged perspectives on the challenges and opportunities faced by American companies in India, such as regulatory issues, market access, and skill development. Key areas of focus included facilitating market entry, providing sector-specific support, and enhancing skill development initiatives. AMCHAM and the Consulate agreed to further explore specific areas of collaboration and develop actionable plans to support U.S. companies operating in India, with follow-up meetings and working sessions scheduled to outline concrete steps for implementation.
