Virtual Tax Seminar for U.S. Citizens in South India – 02 March 2021

AMCHAMs Karnataka Chapter, in partnership with the U.S. Consulate General Chennai, hosted a webinar for U.S. citizens in south India on March 2nd evening which focused on U.S. tax return updates for 2020, bringing non-filing expats into current Internal Revenue Service (IRS) compliance (streamlined filing process), Informative Return – Form 5471 / Form 8865 / FBAR / Form 8938 / Form 3520 (gift form), expat-specific tax issues, PFIC implications and foreign mutual funds. The expert speakers from H&R Block included Mr. Karan Sadarangani, Mr. Mitilesh Gaglani and Mr. Amit Patil. The session opened with a welcome and overview of AMCHAM by Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM followed by an address by Consul General Judith Ravin, U.S. Consulate General Chennai and Ms. Kathryn Flachsbart, Consular Chief, U.S. Consulate in Chennai. H&R Block speakers answered questions that the audience had sent in advance. Over 250 U.S. citizens attended the session. AMCHAM introduced the American League, AMCHAM’s exclusive segment for American citizens to network with leadership of U.S. companies operating in India and a follow up session would be planned.
