Members of AMCHAM’s Eastern Region met Syeda Shahrazad Rahman, Commercial Specialist, U.S. Embassy Dhaka, Mahadi Sirat, Economic/Commercial Specialist, U.S. Embassy Dhaka, and Jonathan Ward, U.S. Commercial Officer, U.S. Consulate Kolkata, on 17th August in Kolkata. The topics of discussion included cross-border trade issues, investment opportunities in Bangladesh and the U.S. Trade Show in Dhaka in November 2017.

Mr. Debdas Sen, Chairman – Eastern Region, AMCHAM, gave welcome remarks and the vote of thanks. The team, during the interactive session, said that Bangladesh’s trade scenario and investment opportunities were very good and that Bangladesh was one of the fastest growing economies in South East Asia. Members spoke about problems that they have faced as investors in Bangladesh and gave some specific examples. The team from Dhaka mentioned that their offices could assist AMCHAM members who were facing specific issues by arranging meetings with the concerned departments of the Bangladesh government. They invited AMCHAM India members to visit Bangladesh and said the U.S. Embassy could help facilitate any assistance that was required. They encouraged members who had offices in Bangladesh to become members of AMCHAM Bangladesh to avail of networking opportunities offered by the chamber.
