AMCHAM made a representation on June 6th to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MOCI), Ministry Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) and Invest India regarding the WTO Customs Duty Moratorium on Electronic Transmissions on behalf of its members, who were deeply concerned that the Indian Government was planning to oppose the renewal of the moratorium at the upcoming Ministerial Conference of the WTO from June 12th-15th 2022. In this connection, AMCHAM was asked by DPIIT, Office of the Economic Adviser, MOCI to explain its recommendations on why the Government of India should NOT oppose the renewal of the moratorium. Mr. Amitabh Kumar, Program Director, AMCHAM met with Ms. Rupa Dutta, IES, Principal Adviser, DPIIT, Office of the Economic Adviser, Ministry of Commerce & Industry on June 9th and discussed AMCHAM’s recommendations, which were well received by the Principal Adviser.
