Economic Affairs Committee

U.S.-India trade relations have developed into a global strategic partnership based on shared democratic values and aligned interests. Despite COVID-19 disruptions, their collaboration has been strong across various areas, including defense, security, healthcare, trade, and technology. Trade and economic ties have been central to this partnership. The U.S. is India’s top trading partner and largest export market, while India is the U.S.’s ninth-largest trade partner. In fiscal year 2024, bilateral trade reached $119.71 billion, about 10.73% of India’s total trade. The U.S. is India’s third-largest investor with $65.19 billion in foreign direct investment from April 2000 to March 2024. The 2020 trade agreement highlighted that American companies employ over 10 million people in India, particularly in IT, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare. Both countries emphasize the role of the private sector in aligning education with industry needs and are committed to public-private partnerships to foster innovation, job creation, and skill development. The Economic Affairs Committee aims to explore the significant contribution made by U.S. companies in generating income and employment in India.
