Economic Affairs Committee

The Economic Affairs Committee of AMCHAM India serves as a vital platform for fostering
dialogue between U.S. and Indian businesses during a transformative period in global
economic relations. As of December 2025, while the bilateral relationship navigates trade
policy adjustments, it continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience with bilateral trade
reaching $119.71 billion in fiscal year 2024 and robust cooperation across strategic sectors
including defense technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, clean energy, space
exploration, and healthcare. To help members navigate the rapidly changing global
landscape, the Committee organizes a bi-monthly 'Thought Leadership Lecture Series'
featuring eminent economists and domain experts of international repute who share
valuable insights on emerging economic trends, international trade and investment flows,
and opportunities for cross-border business collaboration. Distinguished speakers who have
deliberated in this series include Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran (Chief Economic Adviser,
Government of India), Dr. Urjit Patel (Former Governor of RBI), Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal
(Member, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister), and Dr. Arvind Virmani
(Member, NITI Aayog).
Looking ahead, the U.S.-India partnership is positioned for continued growth across
sustainable development, digital economy, advanced manufacturing, and supply chain
resilience, with the Economic Affairs Committee committed to serving as a bridge between
business communities and providing members with strategic insights to capitalize on
emerging opportunities in this evolving relationship. The Committee also conducts
economic research on a regular basis. Its latest advocacy effort is an ongoing survey-based
report on the impact of skill development initiatives undertaken by AMCHAM member
companies in India. Through such studies, the Economic Affairs Committee aims to highlight
the significant contribution of U.S. companies to income generation and employment in
India.
