Cyber Security for the Post COVID Era – 17th April 2020

A webinar was organized by AMCHAM’s Cyber Security Committee on April 17th. The AMCHAM and FTI Consulting whitepaper was released by Lt. Gen. Rajesh Pant, National Cyber Security Coordinator, Government of India. Lt. Gen Pant shared his insights on the government’s efforts in strengthening the nation’s cyber security apparatus. With increased focus on digital financial services, the key issues identified during the deliberations for consideration were the following:

Create a public-private task force to adopt and promote FS-ISAC more consistently across the industry
Partnership with regulators to enable remote working for all functions
Strengthen business continuity plans to prepare for global scenarios
Promote views provided by industry forums on privacy, policy harmonization, digital trade and flows, cloud and data localization

Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan, Additional Secretary, MeitY and Mr. G. Narendra Nath, Joint Secretary, NSCS addressed members. They spoke of various challenges and steps taken by GOI to address a sudden increase in traffic, not only on “dot nic” mails, but also on access related aspects. Financial aspects such as the sudden increase of UPI handles in the country and the government initiatives to make platforms such as the Bharat Bill Payment System more secure and resilient. The importance for a need of responsible and accurate communication to the general public and industry was highlighted. AMCHAM and FTI Consulting’s research and recommendations made on cyber crime and other six critical infrastructure framework for the country was appreciated. The webinar also entailed a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Amrit Singh Deo, Co-Chairman – Cyber Security Committee, AMCHAM, which had industry experts such as Ms. Kaku Nakhate, Vice Chairperson, AMCHAM and President & Country Head (India), Bank of America N.A, Mr. Vishak Jayachandran, Cisco, Mr. Neel Bhatia, Intel and Mr. Deepak Maheshwari, Former Chairman – Cyber Security Committee, AMCHAM.
