Meeting with Mr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman & Managing Director, Oil India Limited

AMCHAM’s Energy Committee met with Mr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman & Managing Director, Oil India Limited at his office on December 21st. Mr. Rath and his team made a detailed presentation on the emerging opportunities for collaboration with AMCHAM members. Mr. Rath also highlighted areas where members could share their expertise and knowledge for various initiatives of Oil India. Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM shared about AMCHAM’s initiatives promoting U.S.-India economic cooperation and thanked Mr. Rath for the meeting. Mr. Neeraj Sethi, National Executive Board Member, AMCHAM and Managing Director, Baker Hughes initiated an interactive discussion. The meeting was attended by representatives from Emerson India, Smiths Group and John Crane.

Annual Christmas Ball

AMCHAM’s Annual Christmas Ball was held on December 16th at the Hyatt Regency, New Delhi. Ms. Patricia Lacina, Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy, was the guest of honor. Mr. Som Satsangi, Chairman, AMCHAM and SVP and MD, India, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Mr. Salil Gupte, Vice Chairman, AMCHAM and President, Boeing India and Mr. Sanjay Bhutani, Honorary Secretary & Treasurer, AMCHMA and MD – India & SAARC, Bausch & Lomb India were present. Approximately 150 members and guests participated in the fun filled evening. Meeting with Mr. G.V.L. Satya Kumar, Managing Director, Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), Ministry of Railways, Government of India – 13 December 2023

AMCHAM’s Infrastructure and Smart Cities Committee held a meeting with Mr. G.V.L. Satya Kumar, Managing Director, Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), Ministry of Railways, Government of India on December 13th. Ms. Geeta Poduval, Director, AMCHAM highlighted the mission of AMCHAM India and various activities undertaken to promote the U.S.-India economic partnership. Mr. Satya Kumar delineated about ongoing and new initiatives being undertaken by CRIS for digitization and modernization of the railways. Mr. Ashish Modi, Managing Director, Honeywell India spoke about technology interventions that U.S. companies can bring to the Indian railways.

Manufacturing Committee Meeting

AMCHAM’s Manufacturing Committee held a hybrid meeting on December 8th at the CBRE office in Gurugram under the leadership of Mr. Mukul Varshney, Co-Chairman – Manufacturing Committee, AMCHAM and R1-Director – Corporate Affairs, Media and Communications India, Africa, SE Asia, Middle East, Asia Pacific, Region 1 – John Deere. Mr. Varshney warmly welcomed members and encouraged members to raise ease of business challenges by sending a detailed note to AMCHAM for taking forward with the government. Speaking on diversity, equity, and inclusion, he suggested enhanced focus and encouragement of having more women in the manufacturing sector and shared best practices at John Deere. Mr. Rajesh Edlabadkar, Senior General Manager, Supply Management, John Deere India shared about supply chain management priorities and the outlook with various geopolitical challenges with an emphasis on resiliency, visibility/transparency, risks and sustainability. During the interactive meeting members shared challenges and concerns related to manufacturing. The committee decided to organize a manufacturing focused session on Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, explore site visits with innovative best practices incorporated and to create an internal committee document on members’ manufacturing footprint.

Agriculture & Food Processing Committee Meeting

AMCHAM’s Agriculture & Food Processing Committee organized a hybrid committee meeting on December 6th at Cargill’s office in Gurugram under the leadership of Mr. Prashant Peres, Chairman – Agriculture & Food Processing Committee, AMCHAM and Managing Director – South Asia, Kellogg’s and Mr. Raju Kapoor, Co-Chairman – Agriculture & Food Processing Committee, AMCHAM and Director – Public & Industry Affairs, FMC India Pvt. Ltd. The committee took stock of the progress of the report on ‘Making India the Global Food Hub’ and agreed to share their specific inputs. It was decided to launch the report in the next policy roundtable in the second half of January 2024. Ms. Komple Sharma, Director, AMCHAM India presented the scope of a new committee on environment and sustainability and asked for suggestions and interest to join this committee. The proposed Western Region signature event which would have a focused session on agriculture and food processing was also deliberated upon. The committee discussed the scope and usefulness of mounting a business delegation to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by the chair.

Meeting with Ms. Thea Kendler, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration, Bureau of Industry & Security, U.S. Department of Commerce – 07 December 2023

On December 7th, AMCHAM members from the defense, aerospace, manufacturing and financial services sectors participated in an interactive session with Ms. Thea Kendler, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration, Bureau of Industry & Security, U.S. Department of Commerce,  Mr. Jae Shin, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Political Military Affairs, U.S. Department of State, Ms. Renee Sonderman, Director, Office of Conventional Arms Threat Reduction (CATR), U.S. Department of State, Mr. Sho Morimoto, Division Chief for Sea, Land and AeroSystems, U.S. Department of State and other government officials from OUSD, BIS, Commerce and Political Sections of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi. Ms. Udaya Arun, Director, AMCHAM welcomed the Assistant Secretary and team and requested her to share her views on export control, challenges and rules governing the export of dual-use and military items. Assistant Secretary Kendler, in her remarks, enquired about any challenges that businesses faced by export controls, the impact of regulations and how they could encourage U.S. businesses to export in India. She mentioned that last year over 1,200 licences from India were approved and only 5 were denied contrary to the perception of a high denying rate. Members raised queries on SCOMET, SOSA, RDP and co-development. The Assistant Secretary offered to support for BIS to take the lead on having all 4 agencies together (BIS, Department of State, Department of Defense, Department of Energy) in a meeting for ease, whenever necessary. AMCHAM would help put together industry comments on STA authorization.
